The sense of water. Up school S.Elena
The intervention aims to integrate new technologies and multisensory aquatic spaces within a single architectural and pedagogical project. This takes place in a Campidanese courtyard building of the late nineteenth century of high historical value located in Quartu Sant’Elena (Cagliari).
The project involved the construction of three bathtubs, without affecting the original structure of the architectural work, studied in relation to particular activities and depending on the basic motor patterns that the child is brought to retrieve and enhance.
The bathtubs assume different configurations depending on the project objectives and are divided into: a rectangular tub, with from 0 cm to 120 cm variable height section, with variable water flow in the direction, intensity and temperature; a geodesic shape, with low depth and flow of aerated water at variable pressure; a tub / path of minimum depth treated with different coating materials (smooth, rough, rough), with tactile stress.
The bathtubs, equipped with a walkable gate, are equipped with water filtering and heating systems. The "sense of water" is not the sole reason for the project but the unifying element that facilitates the reading of the interior and exterior space, as well as a learning tool and sensory stimulus.
The areas dedicated to activities will be equipped with walls and interactive components, which must be integrated into the existing and combine high technology components with other low-tech made with recycled materials or environmentally friendly.
The space is designed with a close attention to multisensory, flexibility, interactivity, energy autonomy and environmental eco-compatibility features.
