The intervention consists of the re-functionalization and restoration of a 1920´s apartment located in Congreso neighborhood, downtown Buenos Aires.
The property, uninhabited for a long time, was in a very poor state of general conservation, although built with good workmanship and noble materials of that time. Spruce Wood floors, marble baseboards, solid wood joinery and handmade craft moldings.
The original distribution and functioning logic was representative of past ways of living. Kitchen and service room were located next to an internal courtyard, relegated from conditions of good sunlight, views and connection with the rest of spaces. The main room, located next to the entrance hall, was exposed to the public areas. Bathrooms and toilets of a disproportionate size for general use occupied potential locations.
Three courtyards distributed in different sectors of the floor plan, aswell as the street facade gave the apartment the possibility of natural lighting and ventilation.
The premises with which it operated have to do, on the one hand, with adapting the operation to a contemporary way of life, and on the other, maintaining the apartment's original identity and construction quality. New interventions were materially sintered with the same code. Kitchen furniture, and corridor doors in dark gray lacquered wood. As for the hall, living room and dining room, the sectors originally loaded unreproducible elements that accounted the age of the apartment, were restored item by item. Finally, a granite tile floor unifies the horizontal plane of the intervention.
