Sport facilitiy in Collonge
Located in the cold lands of the Dauphiné, the commune of l’Isle d'Abeau is today divided between the contemporary image of its new town and the vestiges of its past. This duality is at the heart of our project, carried out by two municipalities. The stadium in Collonge occupies a central position which the project must use to breathe new life into the sports plain that brings them together.
The project is also about limiting costs and thus manufacturing an architectural object whose dimensions allow it to resonate with the territorial dimension of a project shared between two rugby clubs, two municipalities.
The four facades of the project play a precise role in its operation. The northern one assumes its mineral presence and marks the revival of the sports plain. The eastern gable, which is strictly functional, receives the parts of use related to the sports activity and is only available to the users of the changing rooms. In opposition, the western facade is dug in order to welcome the public and offer a courtyard to the clubhouse. A strong element of the project, it benefits from a skylight that bathes its bar with indirect and changing light. The southern façade, for its part, is composed by the continuous lines of the grandstand. It offers a unique view of the game and stages the access to the distribution corridor: the players' exit to the field. The roof, visible from the top of the village, is treated as a fifth facade and does not include any technical elements. The building provides a simple response to a complex programmatic obligation. It stands out in the landscape with the taut lines of its monolithic volume, which seems to rest above the historical lines of the plain.
