Luis Barragán (1902-1988) designed Cuadra San Cristóbal for the Egerström family after having met Mr Egerström at the nearby horse riding club sharing their passions riding horses. It is still owned by the same family, Mia and Thomas F. Egerström.
Cuadra San Cristóbal is one of Barragáns most notable examples of his focus towards intimate houses. The way Luis Barragán created his spaces relate very much to a meditative and emotional resonance. Spending a day at San Cristóbal, letting time pass from midday to past midnight allowed me to understand the deepness and meditativeness of this masterpiece. It was a fullmoon night, the sensitivity added by the softness of the light, the quietness of the night underlined all of the above and in return it was the most magical experience within an architectural space I have ever witnessed.
*Many thanks to the Egerstrom Family and to Oscar Humphries who commissioned me to photograph the project.
