OFMA
The work is located south of the city of Santiago in the Maipo River valley, characterized by its wine production with large areas of vineyards, specifically on a hillside that is oriented north over a vineyard and an olive grove.
The task is to host a family office run by a father and his son, who wanted to have independent offices for each one but linked by a central space that would allow them to receive both clients and partners of their companies. In the central space an Italian tapestry 3.6m high and 6m wide should be located.
In addition to these variables, the building had to give an account of the family history linked to the production of wine developed for a long time by the family in this same place.
These aspects constitute the three variables that are collected from the commission to configure the project approach.
PROGRAM AND VIEWS
The program consists of a central space to meet, in whose two extremes the offices of the partners are located, this set is oriented to the north and dominates both the near view, constituted by the vineyards and olive trees, as well as the distant views towards the Santiago city. To the south is the main access with the reception and its bathroom, cellar and kitchen supports.
THE TAPIZ AND THE BOVEDAS
The presence of a large work of art in the central space of the building, determines on the one hand the configuration of a support for this, a wall, which in turn must have a distance, height and envelope relationship that allows it to be displayed. Correctly, a sky. That is why part of the condition of a central wall surround which orders the front and back of the work, and on the other hand a sky that after reviewing several alternatives of flat and sloping, opted for a cover without supports that The wall will take off, thus creating the idea of a vault capable of covering a great light without leaning and discharging the forces in lateral supports, that is to say the walls that separate both offices from the central space.
THE BOVEDA AND THE WINE
Together with its appropriate structural capacity to display the tapestry, the vault appears as a form that we understood linked to the wine and its cellar, this is how it is decided to adopt a system configured by three vaults in reinforced concrete which in turn is used throughout the building giving the project a monolithic character.
