Town hall Remchingen
The new town hall in Remchingen, located on an exposed property between the federal road B10 and the green area of Schlossbad and Pfinz, is designed as a new center for encounters and communication. Its direct neighborhood is characterized by the Remchinger Kulturhalle and the nursing home for the elderly, which, as independent, self-reliant solitaires, do not establish a spatial relationship with one another.
In order to improve this situation sustainably and to develop clear square edges, a polished, pentagonal city building block was designed, which has no backsides and shows its structural presence both to the redesigned market square and to the two street escapes.
It is also important for the dimensioning of the house at this profiled location that it has a long-distance effect in the image of the city: the four-storey building's height refers to the surrounding buildings, but adds to them in an exciting way and appears as an independent house.
Its structured façades made of insulating concrete strengthen the impression of solidity and anchoring with the place. Large, regularly set window formats with deep reveals emerge from the homogeneously designed shell, whose mineral wall structure is fully recyclable.
The diverse uses of the town hall can already be seen from the outside: the foyer with the citizens' office and the spacious catering area on the ground floor, the wedding hall with city loggia on the first floor and the large, two-story council room on the second floor with a view of the nearby Pfinz have a far-reaching effect on the city inside. In order to make the character of an open house tangible for the citizens, a free floor plan with flowing room boundaries was created around a central atrium.
