BOX OF POSSIBILITIES
Within the framework of the "Taller de Obras" of the School of Architecture of Talca hundreds of tomato boxes and tetra packs are converted into materials capable of expressing a new meaning: their new organization constitutes a cylindrical wood and cardboard building that houses a single occupant who comes to it to observe the landscape in which it is located.
"Getting into the architectural problem through materials means being open to the possibility of being guided by matter and its peculiarities; submitting to them emancipates the paradigm of design-plan.
The choice of wooden boxes and tetra packs was, in this sense, fortuitous: there are hundreds of them, they are everywhere, they are practically garbage since they have already been used for the purpose for which they were built and they cost little more than their delivery. However, among all the objects we found, we chose these boxes, since something is still active in them: their materiality, their constructive form, their structural minimum: geometry, weight, resistance, color, smell. This would be our material.
Here, then, is the opportunity to work with waste, not because of the multiple sustainable readings that it represents, but because of the freedom to count on a “with what” at will. Then the inherent restrictions of this choice and the struggle of the possibilities.
Taking charge of the manifest restrictions implies debating the properties of things and the power to transform them into others, that is, the movement that involves transforming material into matter and then back into material, but this time into building material.
