Hôtel Massy
As part of the new “Ampère Sud” development in the city of Massy, designed as a garden district, this project positions itself as an autonomous building, guaranteeing continuity between the gardens of the inner courtyards and the public space.
At the corner of Rue Galvani and Rue Léon Migaux, the hotel asserts itself as a singular architectural figure and its ground floor as a possible space for convergence.
Ground floor and terrace floor
At street level, we have designed spaces capable of benefiting from the particularities of the building’s situation.
The ground floor is largely glazed, with corners opening onto the public space. Spanning across the intersection of the streets and the terrace of the inner courtyard, it encompasses the hotel restaurant and dining room.
The accessible roof offers a terrace to the south, open to the landscape of the inner courtyard.
An elementary figure
The reading of the building is two-fold: an elementary figure as seen from afar and a texture characteristic of the typological scale perceptible upon approach. The facade of the hotel reflects the internal organisation of the building: rooms are arranged around a central circulation core, typical of the centrally planned hotel archetype.
The double rooms situated in each angle benefit from a more generous space and a double orientation.
The fold
The work on the bow-window corresponding to each room draws a regular and repetitive fold across the facade. It is associated with a subtle inclination of the vertical pillars which produces a corbelled effect at each floor and thus a saw-toothed model of the pure vertical.
The weaving generated by the meeting of these two forms gives the facade an abstract and intangible character.
Prefabrication and assembly
The constructive rigor induced by the regular grid of the hotel rooms allowed for the development of the facade with a constructive system of precast concrete pieces. In the form of either portals or lintels, these pieces were assembled on site using installation tools specially developed by contractor Demathieu Bard. Natural anodised aluminium frame windows closely resemble the lightly coloured concrete and give the building a uniform tone.
The B&B hotel in Massy is a peculiar and ornamental building, a weaving inspired by its interior spaces.
