Chen Long Nursery
If you can go back in time, what kind of nursery would you like to spend a good time in? As the first stop of children's growth education, the nursery is not only a functional place to meet the care of children's lives and inspired by early education, but also to inspire children's curiosity and protect the child's true enlightenment.
Chen Long Nursery Project is located in Chenlong Green Garden Community, Gulou District, Nanjing. It is surrounded by dwellings and high-rises. The community itself lacks a space for children's activities and leisure. Facing the contradictory relationship between architecture, environment, and transportation, the design team is committed to finding breakthroughs in this vertical space to alleviate the sense of embarrassment of the site and establish a balanced and harmonious neighborhood link between nodes.
Before the project was renovated, the community had a vacant facade with dilapidated exterior roads, uneven ground roads, and parking violations. There was insufficient lighting in the narrow windows on one side, and the interior mainly relied on artificial lighting, which lacked space for children to move. The design team used the original building structure to maximize its use, and rehabilitated and reorganized the strengths while avoiding weaknesses.
On the basis of retaining the internal space layout, we divided the first floor space into the entrance reception, baking classroom, activity room and game area, and the second floor space is mainly the activity room and game room. At the same time, the original open space outside the venue is enclosed and arranged, and it is designed as an outdoor play area, so that children have more space to explore.
The project is closely connected with the residential area, sharing the entrance and public facilities. We have set up a semi-enclosed activity space at the entrance of the nursery, and remodeled the exterior structure and materials. The material of the building's facade extends excessively towards the direction of the residence. The material of the hollowed-out facade guarantees adequate lighting while taking into account privacy, safety and comfort.
The shoe-changing area at the entrance of the first floor forms a composite space with the game area, reading room, and activity room. The shoe-changing area assumes both transportation and leisure functions. The arc-shaped walls avoid safety risks to the greatest extent. A fun way to divide the spaces.
On the second floor, there are mainly activity rooms and game rooms. While meeting the teaching requirements, it also better meets the privacy and intimacy of classroom interaction. The activity room on the second floor still uses an arc wall design. Unlike the first floor, the material is combined with glass to form a closed space. The height of the glass ensures that the activity room is not disturbed. It facilitates the openness of management.
The structure and design of the activity space and public area on the first floor and the second floor are harmonious and endowed with changes. In order to increase the experience and fun of the space, a “plug-in” game space only for children is set up in the staircase with color differentiation.
The game room on the second floor plans a private reading space through the height difference of the interior. The staircase combines the design of the stool and slide to maximize the division and use of space.
The use of color and materials also echoes the design concept of Chen Long. The overall color is mainly wood, and Chen Long yellow and Chen Long blue jump together, especially in the color processing of "plug-in" game space. Bright colors stand out. In the design of the external space, a minimalist light-colored sound-absorbing material is used to ensure the quietness of the interior space and integrate with the simple lines of the interior space.
Through the materials and structures, the project maximizes the introduction of natural light into the interior, providing children with a bright, quiet, and fun educational enlightenment space.
