Three windows and one staircase
A front with three repeated, low-sill and west-facing windows; a straight flight of stairs facing the middle window. These elements take value and structure widening this duplex for a couple. It is a very fragmented flat with too narrow pieces.
A platform is added along the façade, two steps above the floor, connecting the windows and the staircase. It is a bench to seat in the light, it widens the distance between the façade and the staircase and it creates an intimate dining room.
The staircase supports the kitchen, relocated on one side. On the other side, it opens to the main room, a generous space of 4x4m. It is bounded by a series of diaphragms, like a stepped lintel, a baseboard or the platform. These elements graduate the hierarchy over the rest of the domestic spaces and contribute to visual depth.
A slight adjustment of the upstairs rooms allows to create a hallway plus changing room at the arrival of the staircase, bathed in natural light.
The platform is built with OSB panel because it is light, economic and needs no finishing. This material is extended to the rest of the pavements on the main rooms. Decorative details in black melamine and brass appear as a need to solve the finishing and the strength of the panel edge.
