This project is located in a historical neighborhood in Guadalajara, Santa Tere. This was originally a residential property with no patrimonial value whatsoever. The client requested the remodeling of the construction, converting it in 4 studios in which architecture would take a much stronger worth than the existing; where open spaces were proposed, with great natural lighting, reinterpreting typical old neighborhoods of the area, and will also find a balance with the privacy of the inhabitants.
The design intentions reaffirm the searching of the office for picking up the line of the “mexiterraneo”, in which materiality was selected by its freshness and sobriety they provide in each of the spaces. This way, using concrete, wood, blue painted ironworks, and clay elements such as the vault that culminates on the top level of the building, honoring the range of local materials.
In the designing process it was very important to always explore using solutions that wouldn't break the context language and the neighborhood’s original scale. When wandering around the zone, you can see enormous towers that completely fracture the feeling of the area not only with the number of levels and heights, but also wanting to force a "more contemporary" architecture.
The original structure of the house was conserved, achieving the perfect distribution of this 4 studios and demolishing only the necessary elements to generate much more open spaces.
Terraces on the highest level were added to the architectonic program, achieving common areas that enjoy a wonderful view of the city and at the same time pull of the best use of space. Under this same premise, the challenge was to design decent spaces in which one could comfortably inhabit without underestimating the skyline that the neighborhood itself has preserved for many years.
