IBOX
Located in the twelfth arrondissement of Paris, between the train station Gare de Lyon and the Seine, the project (IBOX) consists in a major rehabilitation of a 20’000sqm office building, called high rise building. The fifty meters high tower and its base belong to [a large build environment designed in accordance with the architect Jean Dubuisson’s masterplan laid down in 1968. It is characterized by architectural forms which follow the mid-century urbanistic theories -modernism and functionalism- which use to plan clear separation of pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
The rehabilitation project focused on five thematic:
-Combining offices and public spaces to improve and enrich the building’s programmatic capacity. Becoming a mixed-used building gives flexibility and thereby sustainability to the plot;
-Transforming the technical base once completely blind towards the street, to an open and active space interacting with its environment. This way, a strong connection is created between the private and the public space;
-Revegetating a technical roof on 2nd floor, once inaccessible and congested, so this upgraded space can be fully integrated to the project;
-Optimising typical floors to provide for better flexibility and adaptability in office areas;
Finally opening up the last floor, initially dedicated to technical equipment and machinery, to set up a true connection to the sky. By adding different activities on the 17th floor (a sky bar and offices) and on the rooftop (urban agriculture), users can now enjoy beautiful views on Paris at different times of the day.
