Let's face such natural things seriously and create a free space where residents can discover how to use and behave as they wish.
The site faces a busy street, and the client wanted a house where their families could always feel each other, while protecting the privacy of the site.
The exterior of the large rock-like building is derived from the demands of the inside and outside (family-connected space, privacy, lighting, diagonal lines, parking lots, etc.). It consists of rooms.
A large staircase was set up in a volume that was shaped like a letter, creating a space where you could experience opposing scales at the same time. At the beginning of the large stairs, a large space is created, and as you move up, the ceiling gradually approaches and changes into a small space. The body scale expands and contracts as you move, and you can freely choose how to use and how it relates. In addition to functioning as stairs, it becomes a living room, a bench, and sometimes a theater with the lowest stage as a stage.
It treats everything from architecture to furniture with the minimum material, the same "stepped" way as the large staircase, and integrates them into one building. Through these operations, the functions of the house, such as a living room and a bench, were mixed and expanded on the large stairs, creating a free space that was not restricted by actions or scales.
We aimed to create a rich space with only a few materials and simple scale operations. It is an architecture that expands the possibilities of living as a resident and has the strength of space that does not change regardless of what you accept.
