RURALATTIC
Ruralattic is located in a building that belonged to the Spanish Red Cross aid stations network. The aid station was built in 1985, the primary health care space was located at the ground floor and at the first floor with an independent access was placed the “domestic” space for the volunteers, the first floor was equipped with a little kitchen, a complete bathroom and a resting area.
During the year 2018 the local city council decided to renovate the space of the first floor and transform it into a rental apartment.
The most important element of this intervention is a piece that structure and organize the domestic program, this piece´s position creates four different spaces to accommodate kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and living room.
At the same time, the piece structures the total space hosting those “big” functional programs, new “little” spaces like corners, shelves or gaps come out. All of these elements must be interpreted by the final user, each new tenant will use those spaces and elements in a personal way, changing by himself the house conditions. This central element is created with the intention of providing to the future tenant the possibility of living into the apartment without the necessity to incorporate any furniture pieces, the object could be used as a bench, as shelves, as a table, as a closet… There are quick and direct responses. Moreover, other interpretations are discovered during the daily use at once that the space is appropriated by the inhabitant.
