Plus energy housing
The project is a result of an competition for developers held by the city of Stockholm. The city asked for a plus energy building with rental appartments and a design that would express the high ambitions of energy efficience. The public housing company Stockholmshem won the competition with the proposal designed by DinellJohansson.
The project consists of two buildings with in all 43 appartments. The buildings are technically connected and share the same system for heating with a geothermal heatpump and a high degree of heat recovery.
The concept of living is inspired by traditional rural dwellings in the swedish climate – in winter the dwelling shrunk into the one space that was heated, whereas in summer it expanded to the rest of the building and beyond. It´s a very smart and low-tech way of being energy efficient and living with the seasons. Therefor the appartments are quite tiny but alongside the appartment a glazed gallery allows each living space to expand out in that zone during the warmer season.
To reach plus energy standard the roof and parts of the facades are covered with photovoltaics. To maximize the effect of the photovoltaics on the roof surfaces the roof ridge of both buildings has been angled to give fully south facing surfaces. The north facing roof surfaces are planted roofs to slow down surface water and bind that little amount of CO2.
