The house and the former café are located in a dense urban environment in the center of Halle, Belgium.
The extension connects the office space (ex-café) with the existing house and the garage behind. The rotation of the extension ensures a long façade. Because of this lots of daylight can enter in both, the existing house as in the new part.
Hereby the views from and to the surrounding apartments became minimal.
The kitchen in the extension is the ‘ central point’ where all the spaces come together. Therefore the kitchen island is also circular, an ideal meeting place for friends and family.
Since the garage in the back is located higher up, the play zone in the extension was provided at the ideal seat height. When the windows slide open, this forms a bench towards the courtyard.
The former café was transformed into an office space. There is a large void with a staircase that connects the flexible open platforms and brings in a lot of light down to the ground floor.
