LA GRANGE
This small wooden building is located in the heart of the now familiar Chevreuse Valley. Indeed, a few years ago we were completing the restoration of a stone building and its extension on the same plot. The reconstruction of an old shed, which was to be restructured, is seen as a continuation of this previous project.
Over time, the structure of the building eventually collapsed completely and no longer made it possible to envisage any rehabilitation.
The program is brief, a studio including a kitchen corner, a sleeping area, a bathroom as well as a small enclosed shelter for a car and two bicycles.
The project had to fit exactly into the volume of the old barn in order to preserve its spirit and appearance. We then began a long process of analysis and reinterpretation that will guide us through the design process to the smallest details, despite its modest scale.
Inside, the perception changes radically, the apparent austerity gives way to generosity. The structure becomes omnipresent and guides everything, beginning with the spatial organization. This essentially constructive logic refers to fundamental l exercises that strongly mark and direct our practice.
To make an ordinary exercise an opportunity to question the relationship between space and structure in an attempt to reduce it to a whole, an abstraction of architecture.
