Morais Apartment
The task to refurbish an apartment in the ensanche of Barcelona must meet some specific characteristics due to the kind of building in which it is located. In this case the apartment is in the principal floor of a building built in 1930.
The interior is arranged in two large areas: an area looking at the exterior through the facade to Muntaner street and an interior area with openings to two lightwells. One of the keys is to utilize and dilute the partitions defined by the bearing walls which structurally divide the dwelling and fragment it in differentiated spaces. In the face of this we propose a system that generates a new permeability.
Owing to the lifestyle of our client we have projected a common space, open to the Muntaner street, as well as a private space to the interior, expanding life around the patio on which the light of private areas is articulated. The layout removes divisors, creates openings, expands lights and lays new connections with diagonal visuals between spaces. New circular communcations are articulated for the rooms with at least two areas of access and circulation between them.
On a building plane the identity of the dwelling is kept, preserving the ceilings and hydraulic tiles.
As a result, a great space that is public, common and luminous where to play, eat, stay, cook... and a series of private spaces with ligh filtered from the patio for the more personal activities.
