House in Monopoli
The house is located in Puglia, on a hilly land of 20,000 square meters in the district of Santa Lucia in the Municipality of Monopoli.
The house, white as an ancient farmhouse, was built in the middle of a clearing on the foundations of an old building.
This data, together with the strict regional regulations on the landscape, have determined the limitations and freedoms of the project.
The limitations refer to the volumetric and perimeter limits of the pre-existence, or what remained of it; the freedoms concerned the possibility of concentrating work, on internal distribution, on architectural language and on its references.
The position of the building on the ground, the relationship with the natural context and with the building tradition, which punctuates the surrounding area with white volumes, have defined its shape and material. A sort of deep intention that preceded, the project and the construction.
The entrance facade looks to the east, like a mask it has deep openings that introduce to open spaces, cavities between interior space and landscape; it represents the compositional structure, the intense relationship with the light and the enhancement of the living space through the project.
The construction was carried out with few materials and with simple and refined finishes. White plaster for exterior and interior walls, gray cement framed with Trani stone for floors, solid wood for some floors and interior doors.
