HOUSE WITH HOME-OFFICE
The site is a triagonal piece of land, left over from an older urbanization. It’s situated along a heavy traffic road, but opens on the back towards a wide-open rural landscape, which offers a great view with no neighbours. These conditions influenced the concept.
The house is integrated into the nature by means of its use of materials (wood), colour (dark like a forest), rhythm and repetition. The global aspect shows a quiet, and almost invisible building, contrasting with the surroundings showing a typical Belgian way of building.
A mathematical calculation of the program, combined with the surrounding conditions determined form and volume.
The house combines a private residence with a home office. Both are kept strictly separated, where the office acts as a sound barrier for the living spaces. All rooms are designed in a very individual way, and were combined into the global volume.
To make this possible, the concept lies in the use of a ‘plan libre’, a free plan with concrete columns and floor slabs. The facade is a non-bearing wood construction, at the same time an economic, ecologic and a quick way of building. The concrete slabs are left visible, were the grid of the casting panels acts as a continuation of spaces in the interior.
The facades, as the plan, are repetitions of a 90cm grid, and are filled in were needed. Each room was designed to have optimal dimensions, light, orientation,…and putted together depending on the relations between these individual spaces. All the inner walls are also lightweight and non-bearing, so that alterations are possible in time.
