VILLA AFA
This is a house built in Corsica, a French island in the Mediterranean. The clients are a retired couple who decided to build a house on a family plot. The site has a gentle slope, is South opened towards a view on the landscape and a bit of sea on the horizon.
A simple rectangle defines the outline of the house which settles on a single floor in the highest part of the site to benefit the most beautiful view. 4 intimate spaces are located at each angles of rectangle. Living areas are spread between these spaces and are opened on the cardinal points: the entrance on the West, a framed landscape on the East, the kitchen on the North, and the living room opened on a terrace on the South.
The intimate volumes respond to the program requested, each one have a different orientation:
- on the East, the meditation room takes advantage of the rising sun
- on the South, the main bed room is opened to the panoramic view
- on the West, the library enjoys the sunset
- on the North, the workshop is bathed in a soft and diffused daylight Each private volume also includes a small garden, whose size grows counterclockwise from the workshop up to the meditation room. The private volumes are made of 3 walls forming a U shape: 1 stone facade wall and two concrete walls. All the facades have the same composition but with different proportions. Using stone walls allows a better integration of the house into the surrounding landscape surrounded by rocks and stone constructions.
