Extension and renovation of a 1950s house in south of France
A couple who bought a 1950s house still in its original condition, decided to work with KOMBO Architects to adapt this house to their lifestyle. The concept of this renovation lies in the exchange of the night area with the day area to enjoy more generous living spaces connected with the garden. The newly distributed areas are organized around an entrance located in the center of the house. The old garages, transformed into a bedroom and a kitchen, enlarges the surface of the house. A new garage has been created on the property line near the entrance to privatize the garden.
The house architecture highlights the new entrance and the new facade at the garden side. The volume of the house is energized by the different slopes of the roof, this is accentuated by the different wooden cladding orientations on the moving parts (shutters, garage door) and on the fixed parts. The large opening of the old garage has become a large bay window connecting the kitchen to the garden. Sliding shutters can conceal the openings. They affirm the particular character of this facade.
