Plaça Cerdà HOUSING
The project divides what should have been a very deep housing block into two short depth prisms joined by outdoor stairways.
The decision of setting a lift inside each block removes them from the courtyard, thus helping to read the space between them as a continuous entrance court, dividing the four-flat entrance halls in two flat-entrance halls and reducing the main stairway to an emergency one.
Two different block entrance halls per stair reinforce this independence. Suspended translucent glass planes that enclose the stairs, creating semi-transparency light effects that qualify it, divide the inner court, continuous in the ground floor, from first floor up.
The inner facades are sober- small holes in a brick wall-, while the outer group their openings under L-shaped concrete eaves. The different brick colour in each block remarks their independence.
