The project reconfigures a 1920s apartment on Mariaberget as a central living space that extends into adjacent rooms to form a sequence. Two new sets of furnishings articulate passages and views between these rooms. On one side, the kitchen is recessed behind a bookshelf and a freestanding counter. On the other side, a bench has sunken into the wall, creating a window that frames views between social and private spheres. A curtain may be drawn to soften light and sound and provide privacy when wanted. Together, these spatial relations make the rooms seem spacious and varied despite their relatively modest size. Throughout the apartment, brightly coloured walls are contrasted against surfaces and masses clad in richly patterned marble in different shades. Custom designed light fixtures and tables by Vojtech Kalecky.
