Apartment Renovation
The Project consists of an apartment renovation in the old city of Barcelona, in a building built in the 60’s. The apartment in its original state was over-compartmentalized with small rooms and the kitchen in the back part of the apartment. The original distribution, based on a long corridor, generated spaces with poor natural light. The renovation changes the original distribution altogether, concentrating all the service areas in the interior of the apartment, using the maximum length of the street and patio façade for the bedrooms. A big living space functions as the new heart of the apartment and gives access to all the other rooms. The separation between the living space and the rest of the rooms is made with closets that establish a new limit between the public realm and the private realm. The kitchen is integrated into the living space and gives continuity to the interior elevation. White slats separates the entrance from the living space, generating a small entrance hall with storage space. A longitudinal planter is built in the terrace and the vegetation in it supplies a green background from almost any point in the living room and the master bedroom. The materials used for the interior space are as neutral as possible using wood and concrete flooring and white walls and ceilings.
