CITY HALL IN LEEFDAAL
The old town hall is located in Dorpstraat, in the centre of Leefdaal, Belgium. The building has been built between 1868 and 1869. The character of the street is determined by a variety of historically valuable buildings. The previous town hall is definitely one of them. The protected façade of the previous town hall is an example of eclecticism, an amalgamation of most divergent volumes, techniques and proportions from the past. The town hall contains elements of the Louis XV style, rococo and Louis XVI style, the classicism.
The first group includes the middle ressault with the bell-shaped pediment and the crossbows above the door and windows. The strict regularity and symmetry of the facade has been taken over from the neoclassical mansions.The whole had a charm and the building had to emphasize the authority and the appearance of the government through the … facade, the stately exterior staircase, the entrance and the beautiful staircase inside. This town hall is one of the most successfull between many others that have been built in the villages.
In the repurposing project, the existing town hall has been kept to the utmost and became seamlessly integrated in the housing project. The design takes into account the surroundings and its capacity. In the design, a maximum integration of the rear valley of the Voer was set as an objective.
With the exception of the entity on the ground floor of the old town hall, the accesses to the various entities are collected on the semi-private square at the back of the town hall. The project includes a total of 10 new entities together with an underground parking for 17 cars.
