House for a Horse Breeder
This project develops the brief of the stables, on a landscape without apparent limits, where is sought, as a request of the clients, that the project transform the daily function that exists in the breeding of the horses in an aesthetic exercise, and at the same time the place is recognized. This is why the program is de-structured in such way that it is re-ordered so that the user is forced to wonder around and from this action understand the place.
What we were looking for, was to develop an artifact that was able to involve the raising of the horses and the recognition of the landscape.
Essentially, it is a house for a horse breeder, not stables, for this reason the established program responds in a different and less practical way than common stables. For this, it was necessary to break a classic stables brief and reinterpret it by adding new programs.
All the flows, routes, drinking areas, etc., seek to be further away from each other so that there is a stroll in the daily function of breeding, this way the functional routine becomes an aesthetic exercise. The design does not divide the functions but it connects them, and it is in how this connection is achieved where this new function is recognized. The flows, which may seem errant, are not, they are designed in such a way to achieve the aesthetic deployment discussed above, and thus function and plasticity dialogue achieving an interconnection.
In this conception there are two scales involved. Both continuously change in height and materiality, and interact in a way that they seem to become one. So we developed a work of transitional scales were three kinds appear; human, horse, and another one in between. This interconnection allows the project to be developed in such a way that the user is understood not only to be the animal, but humans as well; therefore, the project can only be understood if both actors inhabit it.
Architectural design is not only about shapes, it extends further, it looks to relate function with habitability, so in that way it manages to develop a specific vivency, which is determined by materiality. The materiality, then comes to play, in all architecture, a fundamental role, this determines the atmosphere that will consolidate the space.
In the case of this project, the chosen materiality has a lot to do with the región on where it´s located, the light it receives and the program it seeks to host, that´s why the decisions that were made for its implementation are closely linked to this new functionality I explained before. From the almost absolute transparences of the nets to the fracture light that passes through the wickers, it is sought that the inhabiting within the spaces is conditioned by these, so in that way the daily function within the building is almost scenographic.
