DELICATESSEN OF ELIO AIROLDI
The staircase was conceived as a vaguely organic structure, like the image of a large insect clinging to the wall.
The wings parallel to each other, made of sheet iron, have a supporting structure hinged on a central body, with tensioners supporting the middle part of the staircase. The steps, each resting on two blades, in iron plates, have a bonding structure of the structure, with empty spaces between the two risers so as to let the remaining wall shine through.
A slight curvature acts as a handrail on the bulkheads of the staircase; the cylindrical pin where they are wrapped like hinges, the blades become the joint of the two ramps.
In the shell-shaped excavation, set in the fifteenth-century vaults of the basement, the entire structure unfolds as if the wings of this strange animal form descend into the bowels of space.
The restaurant in the past was used as a cellar and commercial warehouse, and has been adequately restored through the evacuation of the old crumbling infrastructure. Used today as a wine bar and refreshment area, it is a meeting point in the center of Lower Bergamo.
