Maalberg
Located in the centre of Malle, this project aims at creating an apartment complex with a central green oasis.
The Maalberg project is part of a mini-master plan in Malle and a new multi-family home with 14 housing units, an underground car park and above-ground green parking.
CONCEPT
The guiding concept of this project is finding a balance between realizing usable commercial space, parking and green areas, creating an urban and architectural ensemble. By creating a central passage, not only it is possible to enter the underlying car parking, also the possibility arises to providing the commercial spaces on ground level with sufficient light.
The passage runs like a winding line with an oval shaped patio with an Amelanchier Tree. Frequency of the waves ensures that the speed of traffic is greatly reduced creating a passage with a pleasant experience value. A bank and bicycle parking are conceived around the tree, while as a pharmacy is established in the left-hand section. The tree is visible from all sides and gives the passage extra life and the custom designed bench around it creates a resting place.
MATERIALS
Materials where chosen with attention to sustainability, selecting all regional products. For the façade masonry, we picked a red-brown brick. The exterior window frames are created in dark-colored aluminum, the roofs are covered with a typical tile of the region, the mat blue 'Boomse' roof tile and zinc rainwater pipes. The façades are constructed with clear horizontal lines in smooth prefabricated concrete, which are also present in the plinth. All these materials age in a beautiful way. The patio, the green roof and the outdoor parking is fitted, together with a green area, next to the construction site, resulting in a harmonious whole, which fits seamlessly into its existing surroundings.
