MONUMENTO
Monumento is an ephemeral observation tower in downtown Querétaro, conceived to celebrate the 487th city’s anniversary. The intervention consisted of a 12 meter high tower covered in white fabric that stood in Plaza Fundadores as a geographical landmark; in its interior, a pink vertical tunnel acted as a geographical marker representing the city, its location and territory.

Taking the concept of a monument, the hoisted object was not a mere physical element out of context in the downtown’s monument area, but also an interactive object for its visitors. Climbing the observation tower stairs gave tourists and locals a privileged position over the city’s skyline, where it was possible to observe from Querétaro’s downtown to its outskirts.
Monumento represented a centripetal and centrifugal force that introduced the old and the new city, the patrimony that we have inherited and the patrimony that we have created. A monument to the past and the future of the city that we create day by day, the city that makes part of our cotidianity, and the one that, without being aware of it, makes us witnesses of its history.
