Private house
A private home with complete interior, designed to the needs of a family of 5.
First briefing of the client: ‘We would like to build a white cube with a concrete floor.’
This project is situated in the green belt around the capital of Belgium. The plot lies on a dead end street with an open landscape on the front and the back, but with houses left and right. The garden on the back is North oriented.
When designing the house, we tried to make the most of its surroundings by a careful lay out of the functions and windows. In the front elevation a low garden wall prevents people looking in, while the large windows in the back open the perspective towards the garden and landscape. A skylight facing West let’s the evening sun light up the kitchen area.
The interior design played an important roll from the first sketches, having an influence of the position of windows, height of floor levels and technical equipment solutions.
The house has an open lay-out ground floor plan. But the different functions (e.a. dining, cooking, seating) are defined by the use of walls or fixed furniture, creating intimacy in each defined space.
During the design process, the client followed our suggestions on materials to be used, resulting in something totally different than the first brief.
