FARMHOUSE IN ALENTEJO
A 1930's farmhouse, formed by a cluster of three attached small derelict houses, was acquired by a young couple to transform it into a single family home for permanent living in the outskirts of Évora, Alentejo. Following municipal regulation, the exterior perimeter footprint wasn't altered and the new interior layout allows universal accessibility for disabled persons. Besides a spatial re-organisation and an updated material-finishes scheme, the renovation included the fully restoration of the facade, the roof and its structure, all accordingly with the original from 1930's, removing some faux-vernacular ornamentation added in the 1970's. The floor was covered with handmade clay-tile produced by local craftsmen. Modern strategies for exterior thermal insulation and overall interior heating were added. Area: 160m2 / 1720sf
