Kulturcampus
The plot on the northern edge of the former Frankfurt University Campus is delimited in the north and west boundary mostly by Wilhelminian style housing in blocks and open structures.
In the south and east there are solitary buildings housing varying functions. The new building ensamble next to the Bockenheimer Depot mirrors the building blocks of its immediate Wilhelminian neighbors.
Strong cuts in the building volumes approximately every twenty meters and a sculptural facade relief structure the block into readable plots and house units, with the apartment house as smallest unit.
The buildings surround a private green inner courtyard. The garden covers a large scale retail space on ground floor with a sales area of 2,500.00 sqm.
The facade design of the new buildings uses the canonical elements that can be found in its neighborhood: clear punctuated facades with detailed window soffits, carefully worked house entrances, structuring cornices, quiet roof shapes.
Color and texture of the facade brickwork continues the brick architecture of the old tram shed now being used as a theater into our time.
