APARTMENT IN THE ATTIC - PARIS
The old roof that covered this duplex apartment was very little open, so the apartment was very dark.
All the work of the project has been devoted to the search for maximum light.
We tried to bring the sun into the dwelling, wherever possible.
On the street side, we have created some new windows and skylights that give a panoramic view from the living room, and let in southern light.
the partition of the bathroom, which is partially glazed, lets the sun into the shower.
In the upper room, the roof was demolished and raised, to give direct access to the terrace from the bedroom. Thanks to this and some new skylights, the owner can see the Butte Montmartre and the Eiffel Tower from her bed.
The access to the first floor, which was done through ladders, was facilitated by the creation of two stairs.
One in the living room is made of steel and oak, and seeks to preserve the transparency and spatiality of the room.
The other staircase which gives access to the terrace from the kitchen is more sculptural and Mediterranean style.
One can go from the living room to the kitchen through the rooftop terrace.
The terrace is a privileged place. It takes advantage of the sun all day, and of an incredible view of the rooftops of Paris.
The work was done with bio-sourced materials, as much as possible.
Interior furnitures are made of solid wood instead of reconstituted wood.
Roof insulation is made of hemp wool and lamb wool.
The inner lining is made of fiber-gypsum boards.
