Fontanello
Santa Maria del Carmine, like all the churches of the mendicant orders present in the Florentine urban fabric, has played a very important role in the life and community of its neighborhood. A district, the one of San Frediano, with a working-class past and where even today public spaces play a role of primary importance in the daily life of their inhabitants.
The proposed project for Piazza del Carmine is a small architectural object (1.5x1.5x1., 95m) with simple and elementary geometries. A new device with a strong public value and its own role within the urban space.
The main volume is covered with simple 15x15 cm tiles in white Carrara marble with a water distribution nozzle of 10 cm diameter and positioned 90 cm from the ground.
The formal exceptions of the side bench and water collector are in green Prato marble.
The new Fontanello, using precise geometries and colors, dialogues with the Florentine tradition.
An architecture able to change the use and perception of a vast public space like the one of Piazza del Carmine.
