LAN DIN
Lan Din is tiny café settle in peaceful community place in Rampoeng village ,Chiangmai, Thailand. The area consist of cafe , restaurant and many tiny building. Surrounding with local natural landscape.
Design purpose is co-operate with local construction team to develop low cost construction price and basic construction skills to have nice quality.
We develop system from basic steel structure and wall system as local team familiar to working on.
But keep push they working to challenge limit of building technique.
The structure and building form come from industrial material sizing module (Steel length), Pillar spacing come from wall sheet sizing and avoid cutting to pieces. And sizing of window and door also. Because of context of site surrounding with existing humble landscape scene,
For this reason, we want to push cafe function to touch natural air much as possible, Then we set outdoor seat more than 50% and link indoor café with many window. We decide to use Poly-carbonate sheet in wall surface for let the light come inside. And make people outside can touch inside's environment by visibility wall.
We try to challenge our design practice to link basic industrial material with local craftsmanship
to build a low cost but interesting building scene.
Meanwhile can keep all existing nature context to support a new building, too.
