The IX edition of ArtsLibris, International Fair of Artist's Book & Contemporary Edition, took place, from 21th to 23th of April, in the Cultural Center Arts Santa Mónica [Barcelona], placed all along the galleries and the yard of the old covent. This religious building, constructed in 1636, was refurbished as a museum by architects Helio Piñón and Alberto Viaplana, with a project which main aim was to introduce modern materials and highlight the presence of different architectural interventions that reshaped the building since the XVII century.
The intervention for the fair attempts to introduce an ephemeral architecture with its own reading and independence, producing a formal neutrality with the existing. On one hand, the backside of the stands and the tables, constructed with cardboard panels, were shaped in white. This material offers a great resistence, flection, compression and lightness, as well as reusability. On the other hand, the small and visible strutural elements - posts and easels, - along with the shelves, were made of pine wood, in contrast to the dark colours of the surrounding walls. The graphic design was produced in orange, underlining the book's key role as a protagonist of the fair.
