De Beauvoir House
De Beauvoir House features the addition of a unique structural glulam two storey rear extension to a semi-detached Victorian family home in Hackney.
The extension frames a series of newly configured modern internal spaces, connected via a sculptural steel staircase. Hackney Council planning department praised the project for its ‘high quality lightweight design’ and as a ‘good example of contemporary design, incorporated into a traditional building form.
Greener solutions to cold bridging and condensation issues were solved after analysis with environmental consultants, Enhabit. The light weight structural timber frame was a more sustainable and aesthetically pleasing solution than steel.
