Pabellón Municipal de Deportes en Espartinas
The plot is located in a sporting area included in a set of urban facilities, such as the municipal stadium, indoor municipal swimming pool, shopping center, exhibition center and bullring, inside a residential area of low density and recent construction. In this urban setting the sports pavilion should become, by its location and strong volume, in the public building reference.
The building develops its program as compact, simple and neat as possible, and searches functionality and rationality over any aesthetic consideration or vernacular sense, and also improves the construction with sustainability criteria and passive energy saving systems. The sports arena is rounded by a functional L that contains the stands, entrances and staircases and also the changing rooms on the main east front, and extends northward with a piece of services that contains toilets, sports halls, cafeteria, administration and store rooms.
The exterior design embraces the concept of abstract aesthetics. A large container is projected with just two materials in suitable proportions, with the use of a brick facade as a massive material, compared to the fragility of the top defined by a translucent ring illuminated with white methacrylate.
Special care has been taken in the design of the structure: the modulation of steel roof trusses every 4.5m with slim vertical supports print with a metal effect the cover structure, which seems to float on the lantern light effect.
