A journey to the origin of the architectures of images.
Exhibition in Venice at Galleria Arti 3160 from May 27 to June 17.
11 is a very special, perhaps unique, urban transport line. First bus, then ferry boat, then bus again and finally, near a cemetery, boat. 11 has a dry charm: two parallel vertical lines, twice 1, a double origin. It is along its path that the images of this series were born, whose original intention was to investigate, through a progressive emptying, the minimal and irreducible elements of architecture, its basic structure, stripped of the functional motifs and occasional variables.
However, among the rarefied meshes of these ideal conditions recurrent visual patterns have unexpectedly emerged, shifting the attention from the objects of representation to the physical operations of the biological organ, from the image as an image of something, to the image as a manifestation of those operations. Independent of the subjects represented, these recurrent patterns highlighted the analogy between the regularities detected in the visual field by the sensory organ and the “notions” of elementary geometry, pointing out that these are “not so much represented in the object but rather in the sensory analyzer that perceives it and reassembles it starting from its simplest elements”*. They reveal the biological limitations imposed on the structure of the image...
