Sagrado Coração de Jesus Church
The project is a result of an experiemental approach that wanted to open the building to the city as an urban piece with different functions.
The church stands on an upper level than the street, from which a stair leads to a public square.
The brutalist use of concrete is consistent and enriches the visual perception of the complex. The combination of materials along with the constitution of space is brilliant: the various levels on the inside, the texture and rhythm of the elements, the height and structure of the ceiling, the light that enters from the facade openings and skylights and the details of the structural components, generate a very sensitive place.
The project won the Valmor Prize in 1975 and in 2010 was recognized as a national monument.
