PLACE Laboratory has transformed a stretch of car bays at the end of Mary Street into a place for the community. The space punctuates busy Beaufort Street to create a local hub for residents and visitors to the strip.

The project consists of 3 key layers – foundation, the detail and the programme. The foundation consists of spatial elements including walls, alfresco space, lawn amphitheatre, podium under a shade structure and access to power. The detail layer includes public art, bud lighting, moveable furniture, shade umbrellas in response to people’s needs. The space has been further complimented by a small event programme of weekend buskers and community events.
