Contemporary house in Clermont-Ferrand, France
This is a rehabilitation of a former house into a contemporary house in Clermont-Ferrand's city centre.
The former house is situated in the city heart of Clermont-Ferrand, in a very narrow street. The client chooses to recompose the inside of 4 levels of the building and to add a 5th one in extra height.
Living spaces are distributed at the top of the volume to benefit from a cleared view on the historic center of Clermont-Ferrand and the advantage of light and tranquillity.
The ground floor is transformed into a workshop ; first level welcomes two rooms and the bathroom ; second level sees the creation of a dancing room ; former fourth level becomes level 3 which welcomes the living room, opened on the dancing room ; and the created extra height receives the kitchen and two terraces.
The windows of the facade are enlarged, and a big drilling is created to enlighten generously the double height. The outside insulation is completely redone and covered with a lime-wash coating.
The extra height is completely realized wooden, dressed in pre-skated zinc and covered with a roof in tiles.
The space is split between the kitchen and the covered terrace, situated in the continuation of the kitchen. A second vegetated terrace offers a space of relaxation to the South, which could welcome a kitchen garden. It is built a half-level below the kitchen, which allows several openings which enlighten the stairwell as well as the living room.
