In the dictionary, the term ‘sequence’ refers to a succession of things; an arrangement of two or more things in a successive order. In film making, the term ‘sequence’ is often used to describe a series of scenes that form a distinct narrative unit, which is either connected by unity of location or unity of time.
From a spatial perspective, sequence may refer to the passage from one space to another. This can be a passage between two rooms, for instance, or between inside and outside. It can also refer to a unity of spaces that share similar programmes or materiality.
By considering building elements as a series of sequences, and thus trying to find the right order, the elements are montaged together. The Sequence project deals with a city’s need for a space that can accommodate an emerging art form: video installations.
