Located in a green and peaceful inner court hidden in the dense fabric of Bologna, this tiny two-storey house, abandoned since more than fifty years, has been turned into a compact but complete urban villa. Being the plan only 4×4 meters the spatial concept of the house has been developed in height: a water green volume floating in the triple height overlooks the kitchen on the ground floor, contains the bathroom and the closets on the first floor, and houses the double bed nested on its very top. Concepts as ‘functionality’ and ‘comfort’ have been interpreted in a pragmatic and nonconformist way in such a peculiar context, by shrinking some spatial circumstances in order to obtain surprisingly spacious environments in some others.
