Apartment and Courtyard in Barcelona
This main floor apartment has an internal, quiet and isolated patio from the Poble Nou streets in Barcelona. In a chamfer housing, we focus the project’s efforts to transform the living room area and its relationship to the courtyard. From our earliest sketches, the patio was invited to come inside the house, giving value to the kitchen and all living spaces annexed. The proposal is based on the idea of merging the main spaces: living, yard and kitchen in order to obtain a new open-space living room with some pleasant nooks.
Nooks designed from a window that has entered into the house, with the purpose to relate the space subtly, and multiply its warmth. We transformed a residual, dark and forgotten space ... in the new center of the house: the yard. The materiality of the project is based on giving maximum importance to the patio, from two basic materials: the traditional ceramic pavement to the courtyard, and the woodwork that invades the house and creates the new interior-exterior limit. On the other hand, since the beginning of the project one of our goals was recovering the ceramic low ceiling arches, which were previously hidden underneath a plasterboard ceiling . The mixture of ceramic ceilings with the pinewood furniture and windows , have allowed us to characterize this apartment in the neighborhood of Poble Nou in Barcelona.
