016 Portezuelo Houses
The Portezuelo Houses conform a family of three projects (Portezuelo House I, II and III) that share a common architectural logic.
The commission consisted on the design of three different houses on identical plots with identical programmatic requirements and similar budgets. Our main interest during the design process of the houses was exploring the iterations possible within the volumetric constraints of a 7.5m by 7.5m cube, which conveniently met the total floor area required by the client.
The result, is a sample of three possible variations within a framework defined by second and third parties (program, budget, construction methods, available materials, etc.) This allows the architectural design to be freed, at some extent, from the authorship of the architect.
This project originated 020 Three Houses a theoretical project which continues exploring on the ideas developed in Portezuelo. Flexible architectural logic is paired with changes in the morphology of the plot which consequently alter the volumetry of the house without negating the rules that define its architecture.
