040 ¡tete! - Urban Toys Competition
¡tete! is our entry for a competition organized by Laboratorio para la Ciudad, the experimental branch of the bureau of Mexico City.
¡tete! means ‘rocks’ in náhuatl.
The brief of the competition requested for the design of an urban toy that will be accommodated temporarily in a public square or playground within the limits of downtown Mexico City.
Our proposal consists of a system of colorful artifacts that, when randomly attached to another object, they transform it into an urban toy. In order to properly illustrate this idea, we thought that a rock was the most boring thing that could be transformed into a toy. All children love to throw, climb, and jump from rocks, don’t they?
After staying three months in Plaza Loreto, ¡tete! was intended to travel outside Mexico City to its definitive location in a public playground.
