“A small apartment seems even smaller if very compartmentalised”. In this dwelling located within the district of Retiro we decided to do the opposite: demolish every partition wall in order to create a single, neutral and open space that enhances the spaciousness feeling of the apartment.
To that end, we turned to a unitary action: to cover the whole dwelling with a single piece of furniture. A continuous wardrobe, more than twenty meters long (“probably the longest wardrobe in the neighbourhood”) encloses the entire space, qualifying it.
This furnishing solution hides away everything: storage cabinets and shelves, bed and seats, toilet and dressing room, niches and windows, heating and cooling systems, etc.
The location of the bathroom and the dressing cabinet, which is also furnished with the same birch wood paneling, provides a greater level of privacy between the dining and sleeping areas without the need of internal partitions.
The result is a much brighter, wider and flexible apartment that can be arranged according to the user’s everyday life needs, but which can also be cleared in order to attain a sizable living room for a family dinner or a celebration. This furniture piece will thus be tailored to the changing needs of the user thanks to its versatility.
