House AB
The project consists in the complete restoration of an apartment situated in a 1923’s building in Trento designed by the architect Ettore Sottsass Senior. All the existing partitions were removed, leaving only the main structural walls, in order to provide a complete redefinition of the space. The living area consists in a generous open space, with the living room and the kitchen. The sleeping area is divided into three rooms and a main bathroom.
The project aims at preserving as much as possible the original 1900’s atmosphere of the apartment, within the creation of a contemporary living space. Spatially the aim is to generate the impression of a unique space broken by only few elements. Therefore the rooms present more accesses, as the typical spatial sequence of the 1900’s apartments, where a sequence of rooms to be crossed was preferred to the modern system corridor/rooms. All the originals interior doors were preserved and restored. Oak is the material used for all the inner space in order to create a more continuous space. For the bathrooms ceramic tiles were chosen to reinterpret the traditional geometric drawings of 1900’s tiles in a contemporary way.
